Fiber Optic backbone cabling is quickly becoming the number one choice for connecting equipment rooms, campuses and multi-story riser distribution. Its small diameter, low cost and ease of installation makes it a perfect choice for extending all types of Network, Communications, VoIP, Security Access Control and CCTV systems. 

How Do I Choose The Right Fiber? 
Currently there are (3) types of fiber which are most frequently used: 
 

New Generation Multi-Mode

50/125 Micron Laser Enhanced/Laser Optimized 
The new laser optimized fibers are a perfect choice for new and retro fit installations. It is designed to support all new 10 gig transmission rates up to 500 meters and fully supports the majority of existing in-building and multi-story riser applications while providing a clear path for future bandwidth growth. Most manufacturers provide 3 levels of 50 micron fiber, 150 meter, 300 meter and 500 meter. 
 

Legacy Multi-Mode

62.5/ 125 Micron Standard Multimode Fiber 
62.5 micron fiber can provide high speen links to support transmission up to the TIA/EIA standard of 300 meters within buildings and up to 2000 meters within a campus.  Supporting the following standards 1000 BASe- SX up to 300 meters and 1000-BASE-LX up to 600 meters. Some manufacturers have extended the bandwidth to 10 Gdps Ethernet using ewdm lasers up to 300 meters. Due to its limited bandwidth 62.5 micron fiber is slowing being phased out. 
 

Zero Water Peak Single Mode

8.3/125 Micron Long Haul & Unlimited Bandwidth 
The new Zero water peak single mode fiber was developed to provide a fiber optic solution to support Metro/Campus backbone for today’s new performance requirements. These cables provide the widest usable wavelength and allow for expansion of data rates in the future. This makes them a perfect choice for long haul application, up to 60 km, and campus distribution systems requiring unlimited bandwidth to support all types of systems and applications.

Tronniks offers fusion splicing service in the greater Philadelphia area. We use a state-of-the-art Fujikura FSM-60S Fusion Splicer, coupled with Fluke Networks OTDR, on every project. We also provide soft copy test results, ensuring complete documentation of services performed.

The FSM-60S splices a fiber in 9 seconds and heats a 60mm splice sleeve in 30 seconds, for a total cycle time of only 39 seconds. Fiber to the Desktop


Traditionally, Fiber to the Desktop was considered a high-end solution for businesses or companies with large budgets and extensive bandwidth requirements. Due to the increasing costs of all precious metals, copper cable and connectors have seen steady cost increases over the past few years. With this, Fiber to the desktop has become a viable option in today’s economy. It is our opinion as a Communication & Network Contractor that a Fiber to the desktop solution is a much better long-term investment than a Category 6E/10X copper solution. There is a significant savings on Fiber to the desktop over copper 10X. Some small costs will be incurred for the network hardware, but overall, the lifespan and almost unlimited bandwidth of fiber dramatically outweigh this additional cost. 

 

Category 5e/5E Cabling


Category 5e/5E systems are designed to support IEEE 802.3, 1000 Base-T and other legacy LAN and voice applications. Our systems not only exceed TIA 568B.2 and ISO 11801 for Category 5e/ Class D cabling systems, but are also capable of providing stable and continuous performance beyond 100 MHz. Currently, Category 5e/5E is the lowest cost solution available today. All of our systems come with a lifetime Quality and Craftsmanship warranty and a 25 year Product and Performance warranty. 

 

 

Category 6/6A Cabling


Category 6/6A network cabling systems are relatively new to the industry. These systems are typically more expensive than traditional Category 5E cabling and are designed for companies and businesses that require the expanded bandwidth for advanced applications and large packet and file transfer speeds. Category 6/6A systems are designed to support IEEE 802.3 1000-Base-T, TIA-854-A 1000-Base-TX, ATM Forum CBIG plus other legacy LAN Voice/Telephony and Video-BAS applications. Our systems meet or exceed Category 6/Class E Channel Specifications to 250 MHz and are capable of delivering Network speeds in excess of 1.2 Gbps to the workstation at 100 meters.
